What is the difference between the short and full Career Interests Assessments? The full Career Interests Assessment is a comprehensive 66-question evaluation that generates your RIASEC code and offers job and industry recommendations based on your results. The Short Career Interests Assessment is an 18-item condensed version that provides a quick snapshot of your personality types through your RIASEC code.
-
What does my RIASEC Code mean? Your RIASEC Code is expressed as three letters representing your RIASEC personality types. It represents your top three personality types in order of dominance, with the first letter representing your strongest personality type. The six RIASEC types are: Realistic, Investigative, Artistic, Social, Enterprising, and Conventional.
-
What if two of my RIASEC scores are the same? The system calculates scores to six decimal places. Even if two codes appear to have the same score (e.g., both showing 68), the system can determine which is more dominant.
-
What are the theoretical underpinnings behind the tools? The tools are based on well-researched theories by Dr John L. Holland and Dr Donald E. Super. Holland's theory suggests that:
- People can be described as a combination of three or more of six types: Realistic, Investigative, Artistic, Social, Enterprising, and Conventional
- Environments (jobs, worksites, and schools) can also be described as a combination of the six types
- People of a given type seek environments of the same type or similar type
- If a person can find such a compatible environment, the person is likely to be satisfied and productive
- The importance of an individual's self-concept and its significance to identifying career goals and plans
- 14 work values: Ability utilization, achievement, aesthetics, altruism, autonomy, creativity, economic rewards, lifestyle, physical activity, prestige, risk, social interaction, variety and surroundings
- How these work values influence what people attempt to attain through work, and consideration of these values helps one make informed career decisions
